Howard Roffman’s Private Moments

A few years back, after a long and scandalous career shooting black and white film, Howard Roffman made the switch to digital. That inadvertently lead to a new era in his photography, the era of color. Around the same time he began what has become an annual pilgrimage to Eastern Europe to shoot the sumptuous boys of Bel Ami. French rugby team “chose players for their looks”

Rugby coach Ewen McKenzie, recently sacked by French rugby club Stade Français, has slammed his former employers and accused them of prioritising the recruitment of good-looking players for the annual club calendar.

The popular Stade Français calendar ‘Dieux du Stade’ (Gods of the Stadium) features nude and semi-nude photographs of team members and is now in its tenth year.

“Stade Français is the best team in the world in terms of marketing,” the Australian told sport daily L’Équipe.

He went on to accuse club president Max Guazzini of “only seeing two things — his calendar and the (team's home ground) Stade de France”.

“He has a marketing outlook which is not always in the best interests of sport,” said McKenzie. “For example, Max could recruit one player over another just because he has a better look for the calendar.”
